Before Christmas, I was idly browsing the net for pressie ideas, when I did a search of "great family boardgames" or something like that... on one link came a recommendation for Carcassonne...
... It's a tile-based board game, in which players seek to build roads, cities, cloisters (monastaries) or farms, each of which score points in different ways. Some score points at the time, whilst others (farms) can sometimes score big-time at the end...
Anyway... it's really well thought out, there's a good balance between luck and strategy and it's got us sitting round the table as a family, having a laugh...
We got ours from maddison games website in the end... try it with the "builders & traders" expansion... it's great!
